Past pupil, Lauren Reynolds (Class 2019) My Experience in Lourdes, as a student and past pupil.
In 2018 , I travelled with the Newbridge Colleges student group 752 as a fifth year. Not knowing what to expect, I dived into the uplifting, colourful and musical week in Lourdes. A week filled with such love, celebration and joy. I left knowing this wasn’t the end of my travels to Lourdes but little did I know the pandemic was looming ahead.
Fast forward to 2022, I received a message as a past pupil who had travelled to Lourdes, asking to share my experience to inspire the next cohort to travel. I found myself taking a trip down memory lane, reminiscing on photos and videos of my trip during school and knew I had to return. With the help of Jon, I travelled to Lourdes last Easter with a family group as a full carer. I was lucky enough to have three of the Newbridge college students in my group and their energy and fun brought such an incredible atmosphere to the group. It proved to me how important their roles were to the week!
This year I travelled for my third time on the Irish Pilgrimage Trusts 50th trip. However this year was a true full circle moment and truly special, as I got to travel back in my bright pink with the Newbridge College student group. Being able to travel with 752 as a past pupil was an incredible experience. I had once been in their position as a student carer, so felt I could relate to their experiences and help them along their journey. I started university the year these students joined Newbridge College and they are the first cohort to have come after my time! While we started the week as strangers I was so fortunate to get to know them all throughout the week. I watched them grow, gain confidence and saw the impact they made on the guests and their families. I came away so full of pride for the group I had only met a couple days prior!
As I sat by the grotto one night, an overwhelming feeling of gratitude came over me. Had I not been so lucky to be chosen as a fifth year student to partake on this trip back in 2018 I would never have experienced the magic of it. I wouldn’t have found the place that brings out a joy in me so indescribable that isn’t comparable to anywhere else. I wouldn’t have travelled the times following my first trip and as I plan to, for all the years to come. I am forever grateful to have been granted that opportunity all those years ago, and thankful to Newbridge College for keeping the tradition going, allowing more students to experience Lourdes and hopefully inspiring them to return as I have.

Something Stirred in London Town- The recent Newbridge College UK Alumni Gathering..
Spanning four decades, the Newbridge College clan-based in Britain gathered for its inaugural meeting on Thursday 26 October. A great night was had by all, as it rekindled lots of relationships and forged some new ones. The meeting point was in a West End Pub and it was easy to sense that Newbridge Esprit de Corps emerge as almost 30 past pupils from the 1977 class to the 2018 class quickly filled the room with chat and laughter, says Chris Kane (class 1977).
As my classmate and the Union's Alumni ambassador in Chief Larry Kelly said” this is all about forging better links with the school”. For those of us Alumni based in the UK our aim is to build a strong network across Britain that can provide advice, contacts and encouragement to those past pupils who choose to move over here. It is also about being able to leverage our network for the benefit of fellow past pupils who could do with our support.
Chris emphasised, looking to the future for the UK Alumni we do need more help. So, those of you who offered support on the night or Alumni who would like to get involved , please connect as we plan for 2024.
On reflection, I’m delighted with the huge level of enthusiasm for creating a Newbridge network across the UK and as fellow Alumni Larry said; “ in 20 years time they will look back at this event and see it was the start of something special"
Alumni , as we continue to build out such a great UK community, we ask that you share with Alumni you know who are living or working in the UK, they can Connect with other Newbridge College Alumni - via the UK Alumni Group and keep updated with events.
